My dear friends in Christ,
As we continue into the new year, changes are upon us. On January 20, we inaugurated a new president. Consequently, some are hopeful, some are despondent, some are fearful, and some are delighted. Our second reading from St. Paul to the Corinthians reminds us that even when our citizens are fiercely divided, Christ is not. All of us who are baptized are united in Christ. As Christians and people of good will, we must remember that Christ is our great unifier! Fear, strife, and division come from the Evil One. We may have our disagreements, but we may not hate, name call, cheat, gloat or lie. We must strive to live a life in Christ which crosses all political alliances and binds us to those who are poor, unborn, sick, elderly, abused and marginalized. We may not see eye to eye on politics or religion but our discourse must be true, loving, prayerful, and Christ-like. It must be grounded in our belief that every life— Republican or Democrat, Christian or Muslim, conservative or liberal, rich or poor, white or black—is precious to God and made in God’s image. We pray for those traveling to Washington D.C. this Friday for the Right to Life March. We pray for the unborn and those mothers-to-be who need our prayers to make the right and only choice: Life! May God protect them.
Later this week, the Diocese will publish the decisions regarding Faith in Our Future. The Implementation Phase will follow. Pray for our cohort and for our parish of Corpus Christi as we begin this next important step in the process.
May God bless you all!
Fr. John
