My dear friends in Christ,
In today’s Gospel from St. John, Jesus tells His disciples that He is the true vine and they are the branches. And, He warns them, “Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me … Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.” This is humbling and empowering at the same time. It is humbling because without God we can do nothing. At the same time empowering because it reminds us that with Jesus, there is no limit. And what we do in our lifetime should always be for God’s glory and not our own. We must always work together to build God’s kingdom here on earth.
Congratulations to all our Confirmandi who were sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit last Monday evening by Bishop O’Connell. We thank you for your leap of faith and we thank your parents, sponsors, catechists, teachers and especially Mrs. Young, Dr. and Mrs. Vahey, Mrs. Zagola and Mrs. Kelly for their hard work in preparing our students for Confirmation.
About two weeks ago, a silk floral arrangement went missing from in front of the Sacred Heart statue in the carport entrance of the building. I’m not sure why anyone would want that. In the matter of security, we must be vigilant and aware of what is happening around us. “If you see something, say something!”
And as we approach the month of May where “April showers bring May flowers,” know that the Blessed Mother watches over us, protects us and guides us as it is dedicated in her honor.
May God bless you all!
Father John
