When is the last time that you threw a pity party for yourself? When is the last time that you showed pity for someone? One definition of pity is “the feeling of sorrow and compassion caused by the suffering and misfortunes of others.” Bartimaeus was a blind man who with great humility searched and called out to Jesus to have pity on him. Bartimaeus asks the Lord to show him kindness and mercy even though he is unworthy of such a gift. Jesus, moved with pity, asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man replies, “Master, I want to see.” Jesus tells him to “Go your way, your faith has saved you.” The blind man begged and opened his soul up to God revealing his own weakness. This story shows the true power of Jesus. It reminds us that Jesus truly is the answer to our needs. He is the only one who can save us from our circumstances and set us on a new path. The journey of the blind beggar illustrates a healthy way to personal growth: from self-awareness to a request for help, to a gracious reception of healing and to following the healer.
The third letter for the Annual Catholic Appeal has been sent out. I appreciate those who have made a pledge and sent in their gift to the diocese. For those who have not, this is the “last call” as the Appeal will soon come to an end. Please remember that achieving our goal means we receive money back to our Parish.
