My dear friends in Christ,
The Feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for Body of Christ) is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. We celebrate the reality of the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Eucharist. Jesus spok e clearly of the nourishment of His body and blood given to us in the Eucharist. His flesh was "real food" and His blood was "real drink." When Jesus told His followers that they must eat His flesh and drink His blood He meant that they must take His very life into themselves. Jesus being the supreme “sacrament” of God nourishes us on our spiritual journey with His own body and blood. Without this sacred food, we can’t have eternal communion with Him and His Father. The Catechism of the Catholic Church affirms: "At the heart of the Eucharistic celebration are the bread and wine that, by the words of Christ and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, become Christ's Body and Blood" (#1333).
Today, we also celebrate Father’s Day. In 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day. May God Bless all of our Father’s today!!!
Next week at the 11:30 AM Mass, I will be installed as Pastor here at Corpus Christ i Church. There will be a light reception immediately following Mass in Bogdan Hall. If you can’t make the Mass, I ask that you pray for me and for our parish as we journey together into the future.
May God bless you all!
Fr. John
