My dear Friends in Christ,
For some people, saying Goodbye can be very difficult depending on the circumstances. We all find it hard to say the things we need to say sometimes — we can go through life assuming that people kind of know what we mean or feel and never actually say the words out loud. Sometimes it’s only when we experience something traumatic or there is a major life change about to happen that the reality is hammered home to us — that life is short and we shouldn’t procrastinate — sometimes only then do we open our mouths and say what’s importantant. Jesus had been crucified and then returned to the Apostles for forty days teaching and preaching and being in their presence. They were probably filled with anticipation that their companionship with the rise Lord would last for a long time. They must have been befuddled when Jesus told them that He had to leave again so soon after His return. Jesus provides clear cut signs for them to believe Jesus promises that His disciples will be clothed with power from on high. Today is a good day to think of those gifts of the Spirit which are necessary for us and prepare to receive them.
Our 2022 weekly Annual Catholic Appeal gift summary is $24,755, or 50% (half way home) of our $50,000 goal. Thanks to all who have made a pledge and sent it in. Pledge cards are available in the Sacristy if you would like to contribute. Thank you for helping us make our goal so that we may receive a nice Diocesan rebate!
May God bless you all,
Father John
