My dear Friends in Christ,
How many of you know people who want to be the first in line? How many of you know someone who has to be with the guest of honor? Two disciples, James and John, approached Jesus to ask Him if He would guarantee them a place of honor in His kingdom. If this is the Messiah, we want to be next to the one who would overcome Roman oppression and reclaim the throne of Jerusalem for His earthly kingdom. Jesus’ concept of the Messiah was not one of power and greatness, but that of the “Suffering Servant” who suffered great punishment for the salvation of His people. Jesus told His disciples that they did not understand or know what they are asking. Were they willing to share in His suffering as well as His glory? Are we willing to do the same? Jesus message to His disciples and to us is that we must become servants who give of ourselves for others.
Today's bulletin contains an insert with descriptions of all of the ministries here at Corpus Christi. Please take the time to review and consider signing up for a ministry. It's a great opportunity for you to become more involved in our Parish. The Ministry Fair will take place after all Masses next weekend. Please stop by and ask for more information from the representatives of the ministry you are interested in.
On this Catechetical Sunday, we welcome back our Religious Education Program and thank the Catechists who reflect on their call to share and live out their faith with our students.
May God bless you all,
Father John
