My dear friends in Christ,
Where would we place ourselves within this parable in today’s Gospel? Are we like the first son who said no but then gave in and did the will of the father or are we like the second son who said yes and then did nothing. Many of us may be on both sides of this parable. Many would lean towards the second son. How many times have we payed lip service to someone’s instruction and then found ways to ignore them. How many have done what they were asked to do and then did it while grumbling, complaining, and balking the whole way. Neither son in this parable is a paragon of virtue. Contrast this with Jesus who does the Father’s will in everything, even when He knows that it will lead to His suffering and eventual death. Jesus is neither of these sons and His hopeful message today is that salvation is not for the perfect, but for the truly repentant. Redemption is still available for those who refuse the call of the Lord at first. Never lose sight of that!
Thanks to everyone who made the Spaghetti Dinner such a success and so special last Saturday night. Thanks to the talented singers and pianist who serenaded us; to Cassandra Brown and her team for selling all of the tickets and for her detailed planning.; to the K of C and Ladies Auxiliary for cooking, serving, and running the Basket Auction; and to the Seniors and Hospitality for providing the delicious desserts. My appreciation to all!
