My dear friends in Christ,
A promise is a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen. This Sunday’s Scriptures remind us that God keeps promises. Just as He sustained the Israelites with quail and manna as they made their way through the desert, His son Jesus also fed his followers with the miracle of the loaves. However, this week as His followers seek signs of continued support, Jesus challenges us to move our thinking beyond the goal of sustaining our physical being. He promises the true bread from heaven which gives eternal life. The Lord is eternal, and His bread will sustain them forever. They must also have great faith in Jesus. The crowd draws the parallel to manna, and Jesus reminds them that the manna came from the Lord, as does the true bread, Jesus Himself. This time, Jesus makes clear that it is the spiritual food that matters and that the bread of God will thus give life to the world. August is a great month for our Church as we celebrate so many of the great Saints in our liturgies. Remember these Saints and pray for them to intercede for us in our time of need.
We are working with Lifetouch to produce a new Parish Directory. The last one was done in 2010. We are in need of a coordinator and assistants to work with the Lifetouch project manager. A $50 gift certificate will be awarded to those who step forward.
For those who have children or know of children, Religious Education classes will begin on September 30. Please refer to the bulletin for upcoming announcements and details. May God bless you all!
