My dear friends in Christ,
Jesus teaches that we are not defiled by the food we eat, but rather by the sin that emerges from our words and actions. As we continue to pray for healing in our Church, we listen to the Lord’s words which profoundly resonate with us. He summoned the crowd again and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand. Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile. From within people, from their hearts come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within and they defile." The Holy Father in his “Letter to the People of God” on August 20 wrote: “An awareness of sin helps us to acknowledge the errors, the crimes and the wounds caused in the past and allows us, in the present, to be more open and committed along a journey of renewed conversion.”
On FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2018 we will have a HOLY HOUR for victims of these atrocities and crimes and to ask that God might give the whole Church including our Diocese the grace to place our faith, hope, and trust in Him. Eucharistic Adoration and the HOLY HOUR will follow the 10:00 AM Mass with Benediction at 12:00 noon. There will be no 8:00 AM Mass. The Mass intention will be honored at 10:00 AM.
Next weekend, a portion of our collection will be for The Catholic University. Please be as generous as your means will allow.
May God bless you all!
Father John
