My dear friends in Christ,
Stars, light, journey, dreams—so many images from today’s readings are familiar to us. We know the songs for the day and all about the Magi presenting their gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh to the child. But do we think about the deeper meaning of this day? Can we see the connection between the child born a king and that same king who will one day wear a crown of thorns and be crucified? This is the connection between Christmas and Easter. God born of a Virgin became flesh and lived among us out of love. He gave his life for us out of that same love. By this love, life is brought into the world and continues to renew our lives. It is only right that we pay him homage.
I would like to thank all who attended our Volunteer Mass and dinner last Friday night. We enjoyed wonderful conversation and the food provided by Georgetti’s catering. Special thanks to all the ministers and to the Choir for enhancing the liturgy. A good time was had by all!
Finally, I would like to thank everyone who gave me a gift or a card. Some of you did not put return addresses on the envelope so I thank you here. I am truly humbled by the love and support that you have shown me over these first six months of my stay at Corpus Christi.
May the Christ-Child be our guide in this New Year and may his light shine upon us!
Fr. John
