My dear friends in Christ,
Over the last year and a half, it’s been difficult for us to find some time to relax with family and friends and to make arrangements for some vacation time. This time to ourselves is necessary so that we can rest and refresh ourselves. So why is it that when we do find the time to get away, we take our work with us? We are glued to our cell phones or our Laptop checking text messages and e-mails and forget all about the said vacation and rest. After Jesus cured the sick on the Sabbath, He crossed the sea and climbed the mountain with His friends. This was supposed to be their time of rest as well as their time to reinvigorate and rejuvenate themselves. The problem was that the crowd followed Jesus. The time on the mountain was interrupted and the disciples needed to get back to work. Jesus was commanding that the crowd recline and eat and the disciples were the ones to feed them! They relied on a child who shared his few loaves and fishes. Trusting in the Lord, this was more than enough. It is so important to just get away and have some downtime for ourselves. We have earned it and we need it. Our Gospel reading reminds us that if we work together, we can feed the multitudes just by sharing our gifts and what we have with other. This is the act of being a true disciple!
The Knights of Columbus is conducting the Parish Food Drive this weekend. Your donations of food, etc. are greatly needed and appreciated. Thank you for your generosity!
May God bless you all,
Father John
