My dear Friends in Christ,
When you sit down in a diner or restaurant, they usually serve you bread before the main meal arrives. We use bread for sandwiches, bread crumbs, and pudding. Bread may be white, brown, wheat, rye, or pumpernickel. No country claims to be the exclusive source of bread. What bread is to hunger, Jesus claims to be for the soul. He is not confined to boundaries, no country claims Him, no region owns Him. He is everywhere always. We eat bread daily so we should let Jesus nourish our hearts daily. Jesus can meet our needs at any time. Jesus nourishes us with His bread as He says: “I am the bread come down from heaven.” In Jesus we find a trail of bread crumbs out of the darkness and into the light. He is the only one who can provide true bread from heaven. He is the forever-bread for the life of the world and always our source of satisfaction.
During August we celebrate Saints and Feast Days. August 4th was Saint John Vianney, the patron saint of priests and parish clergy. August 13th marks the inaugural memorial observance of Blessed Michael McGivney who was the founder of the Knights of Columbus. Passing away just two days prior to his 38th birthday, he is the third youngest American saint or blessed. It would be nice to see some representation from the Knights at the morning Mass on August 13th.
I would like to have a Ministry Fair soon as we are in desperate need of Altar Servers, Ushers (especially 11:00 AM) and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Stay tuned . . . .
May God bless you all,
Father John
