My dear Friends in Christ,
What and why does Jesus bend down and scribble in the dirt? We really don’t know but it’s interesting that the Gospel writer, John, is very clear that Jesus responds to the Pharisees by bending down and writing with His finger twice. Over the centuries, scholars and commentators have conjured up many ideas as to what Jesus was doing. It was meant to draw attention and it seems strange because Jesus was not an attention seeker. Did He write the sins of the Pharisees so that they would leave in shame before casting that first stone? We’re not sure but what we do know is that they began to leave one by one. Jesus looks at the woman and asks if anyone has condemned her and she replies that she has not been condemned. Jesus tells her that He will not condemn her and also tells her not to sin anymore and be on her way. God shows another sign of His great mercy. Annual Catholic Appeal: $19,996 has been pledged and $15,138 has been collected putting us at 40% of our goal of $50.000. There have been 101 donors with an average gift of $200. Thank you for your continued generosity.
Special thanks to the K of C, Woman’s Auxiliary, and volunteers who helped make another very successful food drive under the guidance of Bill Lozier. 85 boxes of food were collected and $1,570 was collected for SVDP. Next drive is planned for June.
Many thanks to those who participated in the Synod for Synodality Survey.
May God bless you all,
Father John
