My dear friends in Christ,
“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” Someone has said that if all the Scriptures had been lost except for these eleven words, we would have enough to give us hope. This consoling Gospel stresses the importance of faith and gives us salvific hope. God sent His Son into the world to save it, not to condemn it. All the blessings we long for are contained in Christ. We are prone to error and sin. Jesus is light — a light that illumes us. And yet some people prefer to live in darkness. Maybe it is because of their sinful pride. Maybe they are just close-minded. So how do we help to “switch” on the light for ourselves and those in darkness? We start by praying for forgiveness and healing. Prayer will help to ignite the light of God in each one of us so that it could spread to others. Prayer helps us to know God better. Prayer helps us in our conversion of heart and leads us to our spiritual renewal. Always remember, Jesus is the key to salvation!
This week we celebrate St. Patrick and St. Joseph. Some will wear a shamrock because legend says St. Patrick used its three leaves to explain the Holy Trinity although there is no direct recording of this. And we are in the Year of St. Joseph as declared by Pope Francis which recalls the 150th Anniversary of The Declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church.
Don’t forget to “spring forward!”
May God bless you all,
Father John
