My dear friends in Christ,
The theme running through our readings today consist of peace and justice. Our Gospel tells the story of the Baptism of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Just as John speaks of the mighty one, God’s beloved Son who brings us salvation, God, through His Son blesses us with the promise of the Old Testament psalm reading - peace. We live in a time when there is political and civil unrest around the world. Wars of all kinds are being waged on battlefields far from our homes, in our communities, and along our border. How do we arrive at peace amidst such chaos? There are several means to an end, but none are possible without living a life of prayer, praise and thanksgiving. As the psalmist sings and proclaims in Psalm 129, “Give to the Lord Glory and Praise.” “Every human being desires communion and peace. Everyone needs peaceful co-existence. But this can grow only when we also build inner pace in our heart. Many people live in a constant hurry. In this way all that they have inside them tends to be overwhelmed. This also affects how we treat the environment. God wants what is good for us. He wants to see us happy, full of joy and serene.” We ask the Lord for the strength to be instruments of peace in our challenging world.
With a new year upon us, our Music Director is looking for some new talented voices to join our choir. We are also looking for those who would like to learn how to play the bells for our bell choir. If interested, please see Renee. You can find her behind the organ in the choir loft.
May God bless you all!
Father John
