My dear friends in Christ,
Jesus addressed a parable to those who were rich in material goods yet ignored the needs of the poor. In the story, a wealthy man feasted in luxury while Lazarus, a poor man, was outside his house, lying in agony, suffering from disease and starvation. When the two men died, their fortunes were reversed. Lazarus was taken to the “bosom of Abraham” where the just awaited resurrection, while the rich man ended up in torment in the netherworld. It is a place hopelessly separated from eternal happiness. The rich man still thinks of Lazarus as his servant, asking him for a sip of water. He then tells Lazarus to go and warn his brother so that they don’t wind up in the same situation. But it is too late. Jesus said, if they did not listen to “Moses and the prophets,” they would not believe anyone else, even if that person should rise from the dead.
Religious Education classes begin today in our parish. The Catechists will receive their blessing at the 11:00 AM Mass. We ask that you pray for our Catechists and volunteers who assist every Sunday in helping the students grow I their faith formation. We also thank the students for making that leap of faith. We thank, too, the parents and guardians for supporting these children as they learn about their faith.
Faith to Move Mountains Update: The architect was here last Monday to look over our bathrooms. He has submitted an estimate which will be reviewed by the Finance Council and submitted to me for final approval.
May God bless you all!
