My dear friends in Christ,
This Sunday, we remember and celebrate the Feast of The Holy Family of Mary, Joseph and Jesus. It might be true to say that the focus of attention leading up to and during the celebration of the Nativity is Jesus. This Sunday, we acknowledge the whole family! We often get a glimpse of the Holy Family when we send and receive Christmas Cards in the days leading up to the Birth of Our Saviour. Some cards depict a crisp winter night with stars in the sky and snow on the manger. And even though this creates a beautiful backdrop, the focus still remains on Jesus. When Simeon sees the Child, he is blessed by the encounter. Simeon cries out, “Those who have met Jesus no longer fear anything.” Pope Francis in his General Audience address on October 25, 2017 said: “Lord, now lettest thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; for mine eyes have seen thy salvation.” At that instant, at last, we will no longer need anything, we will no longer see in a confused way. We will no longer weep in vain, because all has passed, even the prophecies, even consciousness. But not love — this endures. Because “love never ends.” May God continue to bless our families.
As we approach the beginning of New Year 2021, on behalf of our staff here at Corpus Christi, may you and your families have a very Happy, Healthy and Holy New Year!
May God bless you all,
Father John
