My dear Friends in Christ,
On this 5th Sunday in Ordinary time, the readings focus on Evangelization, Works of Mercy/Service, and Justice. The first reading tells us that when we care for those in need, the darkness in our lives will turn to light. The second reading helps us remember that we do not rely on our own wisdom when we speak and act, but on God. And the Gospel tells us that we should boldly spread the Light of Christ throughout the world. Jesus tells us: “You are the salt of the earth, you are the light of the world.” These words define the way we should live and how we are to show concern for others. Jesus also tells us to be in accord with Him in loving others. Salt is active and light is active. It should not be passive. If salt loses its flavor, then it is no longer really salt. Likewise, if we are all talk and no action and misunderstood the message of Christ crucified, then we are missing a critical characteristic of being Christian. Our faith calls us to work with Christ to reveal God’s kingdom here on earth for our salvation.
The 2022 Annual Catholic Appeal has come to a close. Our Parish Goal was $50,000. The amount pledged was $34, 477.00 of which $34,177 has been collected. We reached 68% of goal. We had 183 gifts from 162 donors. The 2023 Annual Catholic Appeal will begin in February.
As we approach the season of Lent, we will have two Scripture Study series focusing on the Eucharist during the Eucharistic Revival. Please see bulletin for more information.
May God Bless You All,
