My dear friends in Christ,
In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us the basis for the cost of discipleship. There are three basic conditions for discipleship: subordination of everything, even family in order to make a commitment to Jesus; acceptance of the cross-the imitation of Jesus; and the relinquishment of all possessions in order to possess and be possessed by Christ alone. Those of us who serve in ministry know and understand well the Scripture quote, “take up your cross and follow me.” We are constantly challenged with so many aspects of our ministry, which is broader than just a liturgy. As we begin a new school year which often coincides with the start of a new Liturgical Season, we need to take a better look at this quote so that we can help others “to take up their cross.” I am sure there are times each of us have more on our plates than we prefer, but helping others, especially by leading them to prayer, can strengthen us for our daily tasks. Allow the Spirit to ignite inspiration in others so they may take up their crosses and follow Jesus, too.
We will have our Ministry Fair next weekend following all Masses in the hallway. If you would like to participate in any of the ministries here at Corpus Christi Church, now is the time to sign up and give of your time and talent. We need help in all facets of ministry. Always remember that this is your parish and you, the faithful, make up the Body of Christ in our community. Please take the time to visit the tables and sign up to help.
May God bless you all!
Father John
