My dear friends in Christ,
As we continue through the dark days of February, we long for more days of sunshine and we sit with great anticipation for those shiny rays to trickle in. Our Scriptures keep talking about light, and it really feels like we need it. We’re not just talking about the sun, but the Son. Meanness and selfishness clog social media and souls. It can feel as if anything we do to help is so small, like the seconds of daylight making yesterday different from tomorrow. Today’s readings provide a road map on how we can rip away the blanket of darkness allowing the light we so need to burst in. Every time we provide clothes for the poor, feed a person in need, speak a kind word to someone, we shred the darkness a bit more. This Sunday we sing with conviction a song we need to hear. We believe there will be a time when hunger, poverty and malicious speech will have vanished. That time is now; we are Christ’s light for the world.
The 2020 Annual Catholic Appeal will kick off toward the end of the month. We will present a short video, discuss our parish goal, and distribute contribution pledge cards. Results from last year will be printed next week.
Between the conclusion of Mass on Sunday until the opening of the Church on Monday morning, a box in the Sanctuary holding the four sets of candles that were used for the Blessing of Throats disappeared! We scrambled to find candles to bless the throats of the PJPII children on Monday. If anyone knows where these candles are, please see me or Deacon Mike. Thank you.
May God bless you all,
Father John
