My dear friends in Christ,
Some observe that we live in a time of chaos. Chaos causes insecurity. When humans create chaos, they find there is power in producing fear. Chaos is also caused by storms such as hurricanes, typhoons, floods, fire, and natural disasters. People are forced from their homes and their vulnerability leads to more chaos. When this occurs, we long for order and peace. We look to our parents, relatives, and those who will help us to overcome that chaos which leads to fear with love and sacrifice. Today’s Gospel and Old Testament readings remind us that chaos has visited people on earth for centuries. This isn’t meant to excuse or temper the chaos of today, but to put a perspective on it. As we all know, the gift of free will allows anyone to choose chaos or order. As a result, it can create tension amongst people. Jesus encourages us in our desire to be free and to see beyond it all. Although powerful ones might tell the vulnerable to close their eyes and “be silent,” Jesus orders His listeners to take courage, get up, and take on the role to console and guide so that no one will stumble.
Thanks to all who made our Oktoberfest Dinner Dance such a wonderful success and to Mrs. Brown for winning the super 50/50 jackpot. If anyone has an idea or a theme for a future dinner event, please see me as I’m open to any and all ideas. We could also use some volunteers to help those loyal and faithful team leaders who show up and help at every event.
May God bless you all!
Father John
