My dear Friends in Christ,
It has been said that the Beatitudes are descriptive of God’s mind and Jesus’ heart. Each of these ‘blessed’ statements are an ideal of how to live a good Christian life and how to find God close to us. Are the Beatitudes at work in our hearts? Do they fit our lifestyle as we live it each day? Have they brought a certain wholeness to our life when we were humble, merciful, a peace-maker, a justice-worker, persecuted for our beliefs, or gentle? It is during this time that God is so close to us. This was the root of how Jesus lived His life of grace and now passes it down to us. His words and actions brought encouragement for us to live in the spirit of the Beatitudes because He himself lived them and knew that a life of integrity and honesty is a blessed life. He also shows us what discipleship is all about. The Beatitudes reveal to us what Jesus values in a life of discipleship means for us. When we take a personal inventory and review our own lives, do we see and appreciate how blessed we are as a disciple of Christ?
