My dear friends in Christ,
Jesus returns to His hometown of Nazareth where His neighbors were astonished by His teachings. They wondered where He acquired His wisdom and amazing power. In today’s world, advertisers would compete with each other for His attention and endorsement, so that His millions of followers would be exposed to their products. That was the impact Jesus in His ministry had around the region. And Jesus now enters His hometown and what happens to Him? He is canceled like a lowrated television show. Why? Was it because He was a lowly carpenter from humble parents? Didn’t His mother and family live in their community? Should we really be surprised that Jesus is “canceled” and tuned out? Some of the natives took offense at Him. They got it wrong. We ought to be offended! If Jesus was “canceled” 2000 years ago, how surprised should we be that even today, the world still ignores Him. It is His faith in the Father that keeps Him going. And it is with faith that we keep going, a faith that sees the image of God!
Independence Day is celebrated on July 4th as America’s official split from Britain’s rule and the beginning of the American Revolution. The Declaration of Independence was adopted by Congress on this day. Whether you are eating in or cooking out, remember those who have gone before us and who fought for our Independence!
July 1st marked two milestones for me personally, another birthday and my 5th anniversary here at Corpus Christi. There will be some type of light reception later in the summer. Thank you all for your prayers!
May God bless you all,
Father John
