My dear Friends in Christ,
On the journey to Capernaum, Jesus asks His disciples a direct question: “What were you arguing about on the way?” They remained silent because they did not want Jesus to know that they had been discussing amongst themselves who was the greatest. This is not uncommon in our day. We probably do this more than we should and act like children rather than adults. We love to brag about our possessions. We like to show off our fancy car or fine jewelry. We brag about our salary and concern ourselves with being better than him or her while letting humility take a back seat. Jesus reminds us that “if anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” Jesus equates greatness with servant hood. Do we strive to help and to serve others with compassion and humility? Oh, and who is the greatest? Jesus Christ is the greatest and by His act of supreme love in self-sacrifice on the Cross gives us the ultimate image of greatness.
This Tuesday we observe the International Day of Peace. The United Nations General Assembly declared that the day be observed as an invitation to all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities during the day.
Please know that you were in my prayers last week while I was at the Priests Convocation in Galloway Township. Thank you for your prayers and continued support in this time of pandemic. Please pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and for healing in our world.
May God bless you all,
Father John
