My dear Friends in Christ,
Jesus tells His disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Jesus is passionate about His mission. He not only knows what it is and the suffering that goes with it, but He embraces it with great enthusiasm. Knowing where this mission would lead caused great division amongst Jesus’ followers. There are those who will accept His faith, and those who will reject it. These types of divisions can also be experienced in our own families. Being divisive is not something that sits well with us when we think about God and the Christian life. Trying to live Christian values in this life is very challenging. Where do you find your value of faith? What lights a fire in your belly? What are you passionate about? Is it your favorite football team, politics, recreation, or the environment? Certainly, these could bring some discussion to families, but when that fire is God, tension and division is almost inevitable. These are the times where we must rely on the Reign of God to guide us and strengthen us. These are the times where we cannot be just lukewarm followers. We must come with that passion for the mission to spread the Good News and continue to build up God’s Kingdom all around us.
Our 2022 weekly Annual Catholic Appeal gift summary is $27,540 or 55% (half way home) of our $50,000 goal. As a parish, we still have work to do to reach our goal. Thanks to all who have made a pledge and sent it in.
May God bless you all,
Father John
