My dear Friends in Christ,
Today we celebrate the feast of Mary’s Assumption into heaven. She was a model disciple open to God’s grace. The feast celebrates the special place that Mary has in the life of the Church. This place is first of all defined by her being chosen to be the mother of Jesus, His only human parent. This alone gives Mary a uniqueness which is shared by no other person who ever lived. By her assumption we can understand that Mary, because of the dignity her motherhood and her own personal submission to God’s will at every stage of her life, takes precedence over everyone in the sharing of God’s glory which is the destiny of all of us who die united with Christ her Son. In 1950, Pope Pius XII declared the Doctrine of The Assumption, the teaching that when the course of her earthly life was finished, Mary was taken up, body and soul, into Heaven. Mary was accorded the greatest honor and privilege given to a Jewish woman, that of being the mother of the long-awaited Messiah.
You may have noticed some activity in the school building. We are currently in the process of leasing this space to a charter school. We have been working with the Diocese in bringing the building up to code to allow for the charter school to be in by September.
There are still a number of weekday dates available for Masses. If you would like to have a Mass offered for a loved one, please call the Rectory office. Mass donation is $10.00.
May God bless you all,
Father John
