My dear Friends in Christ,
Happy Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of The Universe! The calendar of the Church has come to an end. Sunday, November 21st, is the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year and is called by its official name: the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of The Universe. Pope Pius XI established this solemnity in 1925. From the beginning it was understood as an unconventional observance in that it focused on an aspect of Jesus’ identity rather than on an important event in His life. Instead, as the Gospel reading for this day describes, Jesus our King is to be found in the homeless, the poor, the hungry, the oppressed. Nowhere else is it more clear than when we encounter this radical up-ending of our idea of a king in the nailing of a sign above Christ’s head on the cross, His wooden throne — Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. How do we embrace Christ as King? Do you allow God to govern and have control of your life? When this is done freely and completely, the Kingdom of God is established in your life. Let Him reign so that you can be converted and, through you, others can come to know Him as Lord of all!
We have a new Christmas Tree in front of the Church. The old one has been moved and replanted. We used monies left from the purchase of the previous tree to get this Spruce Cut. Thanks again to Dennis, Maria, Don, Mary, Charlie, and Jim. The financial report for the Year Ending June 30, 2021 is included in this bulletin. We ended with a 5 digit deficit which is an improvement over previous years. Thank you for your generosity.
May God bless you all,
Father John
