My dear friends in Christ,
The outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost is called the birthday of the universal Church. Through the Spirit the Church realizes her call to preach the Gospel of Christ to the whole world. With Jesus’ breath—the Spirit—we are given peace. With our breath, we share the peace of the Lord each Sunday. The Feast of Pentecost brings the Easter Season to a close. The double Alleluia at the end of Mass illustrates that. The Easter Candle is extinguished and moved to the Baptistery. The 90 Days are over. But our call to Mission is not. It is fitting for us to pray, “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth you’re Spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the earth.”
We discovered a leak coming from the ceiling in the Sacristy last week. I’m waiting for an assessment from our maintenance man. We are currently operating at a year to date loss of about $30,000. The Christmas Collection reflected a $10,000 deficit from last year and Our New Year’s day collection was down from last year. We lost two regular Sunday collections as these Holy Days fell on respective Sundays. Our Easter collection was down $5,000. It is my understanding that the faithful of Corpus Christ have always rallied for the good of the Parish. I ask that you please be as generous as you can so that we can make up for these lost days and keep our debt from escalating.
May God bless you all!
Fr. John
