The big givers give big because they like to see their name in lights or on the side of a building or on a plaque in an entranceway. That is all well and good, but the Lord says that the big giver is the one who gives from the heart. While watching the crowd put money into the treasury, Jesus noticed the woman who put two small copper coins (maybe worth a penny) into the collection box. Jesus points out to His disciples that her offering, gift and sacrifice is worth more than the largest donation because she gave of herself and all that she had. Are we willing to do the same?
Today begins National Vocations Awareness Week. Our Diocese participates in the “Called By Name” initiative designed to recruit qualified young men to the priesthood in accord with the USCCB setting time aside to foster vocations in communities of faith. Young women who may be considering a vocation to the Consecrated Religious Life by joining a religious order are very much in need. Our own Sister Robert and Sr. Paula are a great resource to offer insight on what it means to live in community and give service to others as a Religious Sister. Prayer Cards are in the pews. We would ask that you fill out a card if you believe someone in your family or someone you know may have a vocation to the Priesthood. Please do not write names of cartoon characters or fake names on the cards. Pray for Vocations!!!
The Knights of Columbus are conducting our Parish Food Drive this weekend. Please drop food items off in Bogdan Hall.
