My dear friends in Christ,
In answering the scholar with regards to which commandment in the law is greatest, Jesus says, “You shall love the Lord your God first and then you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” How do we answer this call? How do we love with everything that we have? This seems really difficult during these times of pandemic and social distress. We all know people who have been affected by COVID-19. We know people who have lost their jobs. We know people who sacrifice their own well being by being on the front lines during this pandemic. We see the suffering in the world and we feel powerless to help. We find it difficult to love during this stressful time. Our Psalm today gives us hope: “I love you Lord, my strength.” It is during these difficult times that we look to the Lord to give us the strength to persevere.
The blessing of the animals which took place last Sunday was a great success. Thank you to all who brought their pets for their special blessing.
With the Commemoration of All The Faithful Departed (All Souls Day) approaching on Monday, November 2, 2020, we will have Mass at 8:00 AM and an Evening Service of Remembrance at 7:00 PM in Church. We will remember those parishioners who have died during the past year.
Today we celebrate Priesthood Sunday. The last Sunday of October is a special day set aside to honor the Priesthood of the United States. Please pray for me and all the Priests of our Diocese.
May God bless you all,
Father John
