My dear Friends in Christ,
Pope Francis during the Angelus of August 9,2020 gave a reflection telling those present that it was essential to ask God for help when needed. The pope said: "when we have strong feelings of doubt and fear and we seem to be sinking, in life’s difficult moments where everything becomes dark, we must not be ashamed to cry out like Peter: Lord Save Me." Pope Francis goes on to say that this is such a beautiful prayer which can be repeated many times ."Lord, save me". We should contemplate Jesus reaching out his hand to grasp that of his friend Peter and think of the gesture at length: This is Jesus. Jesus does this. Jesus is the Father’s hand who never abandons us, the strong and the faithful hand of the Father, who always and only wants what is good for us. God is not the noise maker. As we hear the Prophet Elijah recall that God is the light breeze, the thread of melodious silence that never imposes itself, but asks to be heard. Having Faith means keeping your heart turned to God, to his love ,amid the storm . Pope Francis concludes that Jesus wanted to teach this to Peter and the disciples, and also to us today . In the dark moments, in sad moments Jesus knows we are weak . The Pope admits to lacking faith as we all do at times and says that we can be hindered by adverse and evil forces. When we cry out “Lord, save me” know that the lord will be ready to lift us back up when we have fallen down.
May God bless you all
Father John
