My dear friends in Christ,
With Holy Week approaching, Jesus is here in the shadow of the valley of death. In every death, there is life — this is the big message of Lent and Easter. This grain of wheat will die but will still nourish us with food. We are presented with the invitation to deeper life. In our final death is the call to everlasting life. This leads us to the passion and death of Jesus. Without Good Friday there could be no Easter Sunday. In this Gospel we hear, “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain of wheat; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” Jesus’ act of bearing fruit in His self-sacrificing love is the reflection of God’s love for all of us.
Annual Catholic Appeal update: $17,381.00 has been pledged toward our goal of $50,000. $13,142.50 has been collected so far. We still have some work to do so if you have not returned your pledge card I encourage you to do so. Remember, we receive a percentage back from the Diocese if we real our goal as a parish.
Thank you to all who made our Parish Day of Recollection a wonderful experience. I was humbled by the 25 penitents who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the day of prayer. Please refer to the opposite page for our Palm Sunday and Holy Week schedule.
May God bless you all,
Father John
