My dear friends in Christ,
One might ask why Jesus would make a dishonest servant the hero of His story. We can waste all sorts of time trying to figure out a contemporary understanding of this parable of a not-so-honest manager. He tells about a disgraced steward who uses shady means to forgive just a portion of the debt some people owe. Jesus knows that forgiveness and mercy are in short supply. Yet in the end, Jesus says that His followers seem to be unable to match even the so-called “mercy” of the dishonest steward. “The children of this world,” He says, “are more prudent than are the children of the light.” The steward was indeed prudent in his forgiveness of the debts. That’s nice, but Jesus is looking for something beyond prudence. He is looking for true mercy that forgives with no strings attached. Can we forgive even if we think the other person doesn’t deserve it? That is our challenge for today.
I take this opportunity to thank all who made our Corpus Christi Ministry Fair a success. We had at least one sign up for every Ministry represented. Thanks to those who worked behind the scenes with setting up and breaking down of the hall. Our next Ministry Fair will be held in April, 2020. In the mean time, we never turn anybody away. If interested in a Ministry, you can always see me, Deacon Mike or call the Rectory Office.
We will be rolling out our Super 50/50 raffle tickets in the near future. The drawing will take place in December.
May God bless you all!
Father John
