My dear Friends in Christ,
St. John Chrysostom in his homily on the First Letter to the Corinthians explains how the wise men and foreigners who did not worship the true God, set out on long journeys to reach him and pay homage to him. They were able to see him. We are not able to physically see him but St. John offers this: “you see him, not in a manger but on an altar … and you see the Spirit bountifully poured out upon offerings of bread and wine. Unlike the wise men, you do not merely see Christ’s body: you know his power as well, and whole divine plan for our salvation.” How often do we approach the altar in awe and with reverence? St. John warns us that fire might be brought down on our heads if we approach the sacrament casually and without thinking. It is the food that nourishes us and sustains. It is our hope, salvation, our light, and our life.
Our 2022 weekly Annual Catholic Appeal gift summary is $26,600, or 53% (half way home) of our $50,000 goal. Thanks to all who have made a pledge and sent it in. Pledge cards are available in the Sacristy if you would like to contribute. Thank you for helping us make our goal so that we may receive a nice Diocesan rebate!
We welcome Bishop O’Connell on this Feast of Corpus Christi as he celebrates the Mass for the opening of the Eucharistic Revival for our Parish and for the Diocese.
We wish all Fathers, Grandfathers, and GreatGrandfathers a very happy, healthy, and holy Father’s Day!
May God bless you all,
Father John
