My dear friends in Christ,
Have you been interrupted by an outsider especially when you were tired? Maybe you were also hungry and thirsty and going about your business, but the outsider persists. Deep inside you know you must help them but still you wonder. On His way to Tyre and Sidon, Jesus is less than eager to help this woman, explaining that his mission is first to the house of Israel. This Canaanite woman—an unclean, outsider-- demonstrates that she has a better grasp of Jesus’ identity than the hand-selected disciples do. She greets Jesus as the “Son of David.” Her recognition is remarkable. The disciples want Jesus to send her away but Jesus waits and the woman kneels before him, a significant moment because kneeling was only befitting for a King. She recognized Jesus’ power. She then humbles herself by accepting the status of the family’s dog in claiming that even the dog enjoys crumbs from the table. She places hope in what others have discarded. She just wants a crumb, recognizing that even a crumb of healing can defeat the demon. Jesus praises her faith. When you give just a crumb, you feed someone physically and spiritually and help to ensure that God grants you a place at his heavenly table.
Speaking of being fed, don’t forget to purchase your ticket for our Spaghetti Dinner and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Basket Auction which will be held on September 23, 2017 in the Bogdan Hall. Tickets will go on sale soon. Hope to see you there!
May God bless you all!
