My dear Friends in Christ,
Tomorrow on the Fourth of July, we join in the national celebration of our Nation’s independence. As we celebrate, let us remember to pray that God will strengthen and bless America and make our nation a haven of liberty and justice for all — born and unborn. Last Friday the Supreme Court of the United States over-turned the decision of Roe v Wade in 1973. “This is a historic day in the life of our country, one that stirs our thoughts, emotions and prayers,” Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the conference’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, said in a written statement. The cornerstone of the Church’s whole social teaching is that human life is sacred from the moment of conception until natural death. The Church also teaches that it is important to surround people in difficult circumstances with love, care and necessary services and to create the kind of conditions in society where every person at every stage of life is able to flourish. We must put aside judgment, shake the dust from our feet and proclaim that the kingdom of God is at hand as our Gospel tells us today.
Our 2022 weekly Annual Catholic Appeal gift summary is $26,600, or 53% (half way home) of our $50,000 goal. Thanks to all who have made a pledge and sent it in. Pledge cards are available in the Sacristy if you would like to contribute. Thank you for helping us make our goal so that we may receive a nice Diocesan rebate!
May God bless you all,
Father John
