My dear friends in Christ,
We have entered into the 40 day period in The Church year set aside for spiritual preparation for Easter known as Lent. Lent prepares us to celebrate more fully the death and Resurrection of Jesus. Lent is a time of renewal whereby new members of the Church prepare for the purifying Sacrament of Baptism. Lent is a time of penance. Through special Lenten practices, Christians seek forgiveness for sins, to reconcile themselves with God, the Church and members of the community, and to strengthen faith. The more earnestly and deeply you observe Lent, the more you benefit spiritually. Easter will have more meaning and more joy for you!
With February comes the launch of the 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal, and in asking for support, the Diocese of Trenton’s shepherd recognizes that the past year has been unlike any other. “I’m mindful that I am coming to you during a time that has been and remains very challenging. The toll that the coronavirus has had on so many of our families … has been immeasurable,” Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., says in this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal video which we will see this weekend here at Corpus Christi. Each year at this time, we reach out to you, and ask you to partner with us through the Annual Catholic Appeal. Your gift helps fund the vital ministries, programs and services of our Diocese. The Diocesan goal is $6.5 million dollars. Our parish goal here at Corpus Christi is $50.000. On behalf of Bishop O’Connell, I sincerely thank you for your generosity now, and for what you may have contributed in the past.
May God bless you all,
Father John
